Yoga savoir vivre
- The school opens 15 minutes before classes.
- Come on time. You will have time to complete the formalities at the reception and change your clothes. If you are late for classes, you do not take full advantage of them and you distract the teacher and the students.
- At the reception there is a dressing room where you leave your outerwear and shoes, and then there are cloakrooms with lockers. We practice upstairs above the reception. Take socks or flip-flops with you to go upstairs. You can leave your flip-flops in the closet in the Dressing Room if you plan to visit us regularly.
- It is worth booking a class online to ensure your participation in the classes.
- In Yoga shala we call each other by name. This reduces the distance and creates a friendly atmosphere.
- We exercise barefoot, in comfortable clothes and on an empty stomach, preferably 2-3 hours after the last large meal.
In the women’s and men’s locker rooms, there are places for mats under the lockers, this is a place for your mat, if you don’t feel like carrying it with you – leave it, it will be safe with us. - Turn off your phone, or preferably lock it in the locker in the cloakroom with your bag.
- People under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to attend classes.
- It’s worth having your own mat. We recommend professional yoga mats from our store that will ensure comfortable practice. High-quality mats are an investment for years, thanks to which you will take care of the natural environment by purchasing less. We strongly advise against cheap mats from supermarkets or sports stores. There are school yoga mats in both of our rooms that you can use at the beginning.
- If you are pregnant, don’t feel well or have something wrong with you, let your teacher know.
We do not practice ashtanga yoga during the first three days of menstruation. This is a time for rest, meditation and surrounding yourself with goodness and care. If you go to yoga for the spine or yoga on flying hammocks and you feel good, you can take advantage of the classes. - According to the Ashtanga yoga method, we do not practice on lunar days, i.e. full moon and new moon. Mysore, Ashtanga LED and Ashtanga 1/2 classes are not held on these days. Other classes are held on these days according to the schedule.
FAQ
I’ve never done yoga before, I don't know if it's for me…
Great! Come to a class and see for yourself. Yoga has a whole range of benefits – it helps release stress, tension and back pain. It improves mood and strengthens immunity. Besides, it boosts metabolism, and the exercises cleanse toxins and help you lose weight. You will strengthen yourself and have a clear, clean mind.

I’ve had an injury and need special attention
Before the class, inform the teacher about your health condition. They will make sure that the appropriate modifications of asanas (yoga positions) are tailored specifically for you. It’s also a good idea to be under the care of a doctor or physiotherapist, and yoga will aid the healing processes.
I’m overweight
Start with a gentler practice, such as yoga for the spine. Yoga exercises help reduce body fat, regulate appetite and cleanse of toxins. Besides, a healthy diet is an essential component of a yogic lifestyle. On the other hand, yoga helps you love and accept yourself regardless of your clothing size.
I’m pregnant. I’ve heard yoga can be beneficial for me
During the first three months, you should not exercise at all or very gently. If you have practiced yoga before – at the beginning of the second trimester you can return to regular exercise under the guidance of an experienced teacher. If you did not practice yoga before pregnancy – we recommend prenatal yoga classes. Currently at Yoga shala we do not run such a group, but we plan to open one in the future. You can also opt for individual classes.
I’m afraid yoga will be too peaceful and boring…
Ashtanga yoga is considered one of the most challenging forms of yoga. It is a dynamic class that will greatly develop your fitness. Come and see for yourself.
Yoga is mostly for women…
Many centuries ago, yogis were mainly men, although nowadays this has changed and yoga schools are mostly practiced by women. The Yoga shala community is made up of both men and women. It may happen that you are the only man in class, but sometimes there are many more of you, so that the feminine and masculine energies are in balance.
How shall I prepare for my first class?
Wear loose sportswear and bring a yoga mat. We practice with an empty stomach.
Do I need my own yoga mat?
We have a few spare yoga mats on site that you can use. If you feel that yoga is for you – it is worth getting your own professional yoga mat. In our stationary store we have Manduka mats, considered to be among the best yoga mats in the world.
